Frequently asked questions
What is Voice Typer?
Voice Typer turns your speech into text right in the browser. Press Start dictation, speak, and your words appear in the box, where you can also edit by typing. Everything autosaves on your device.
Which browsers work?
Voice typing uses the Web Speech API, supported in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and most Chromium browsers on desktop and Android. Safari has partial support; Firefox currently does not support it.
Which languages can I dictate in?
Pick from the language menu: English (US, UK, India), Nepali, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese. Your choice is remembered.
Is my voice recorded or uploaded by this site?
This site never records or stores your audio. Speech recognition is performed by your browser; in Chrome the audio is processed by Google's speech service as part of the browser feature.
Why does dictation stop by itself?
Browsers pause recognition after a stretch of silence. Voice Typer restarts it automatically for you until you press Stop.
Can I add punctuation?
Automatic punctuation depends on your browser and language. In many languages you can speak punctuation words (like saying the word comma), or simply add punctuation by typing, since the box stays fully editable.
Where is my text saved?
Text is saved automatically to your browser's local storage on this device, like Text Typer. Use Download .txt to keep a copy or move it to another device.
